Started looking at DashBuddy 4. And it starts with...
Re-jigging the layout, and I think a panorama works best. Will post a draft version soon.
Anonymous asked: Hi, you should use another icon! Something with the 't' of Tumblr. That's the only thing I really don't like about your app. Keep up the good work!

v3.11 Submitted
I’ve just submitted a small update to Microsoft for DashBuddy.
v3.11 fixes the background task to check for new posts, which wasn’t working since the last version - it also changes the note information on posts so that it matches with the Tumblr API. Tumblr changed the API after i noticed that reply notes weren’t being marked correctly in the text DashBuddy was receiving - this...

Dashbuddy v3.10 published
Finally got the approval of DashBuddy 3.10, which will be in the marketplace in the next 24hrs. The big area that has now been improved is reblogging. You can, finally, queue and draft your reblogs - as well as add tags to them. This was a much requested feature and I’m glad I’ve finally been able to offer it. Now to work on some new features, which I’ll blog about soon. Steven

Failed Submission Because...what?
Email when I woke up - failed submission. All I did was remove China from the submitted country list!
Very concerning. The report notes read:
“The Developer must provide valid account information and specific login instructions to fully test the application.”
Huh? I can understand if this is a new app - totally understand - but I’m over a dozen updates in and not one of them...
Change Blog Option
This is the new feature I’ve just added ready for next release. You can now change the blog you’re posting to from the post screen while you make changes. This also applies to the new reblog page as well! Hopefully Microsoft will approve my last update soon so I can get this new one out - I’m really excited with this much requested functionality.

Introducing QRPedia →
If you haven’t seen this project - it’s a very cool idea. Another one that seems so simple and so incredibly useful at the same time.
I know Terence Eden of old, and I have every respect for his creative and technological talents. The project is up for an award today - which it thoroughly deserves.

Microsoft failed my latest update because Tumblr...
I’ve got to re-submit DashBuddy. Not because there’s anything wrong with the code - but because it’s a Tumblr app.
I failed on section 3.10 of the app requirements document, which states:
Content that is offensive in any country/region to which your application is targeted is not allowed. Content may be considered offensive in certain countries/regions because of local laws or...
Small Tweaks, Big Tweaks
Small Changes
Changed the headers so long names don’t lose the post count.
Improved image performance
These have been done and are waiting for the next revision.
Large Changes
Tumblr team got hold of the devs with the news that bugs concerning reblogging extras have been cleared, which is great news! That’s what I’ve been waiting for - so it’s time for queuing and tags...

v3.9 - Small update
I’ve just submitted v3.9 of DashBuddy. This fix has simple GIF support, improved HTML rendering as well as some bug fixes that users have made me aware of inside reblogging and login.
Thanks to those who got in touch to let me know, it’s only with this sort of feedback I can keep making this app more useful for all of us.
Update 3.8 has been approved
The version with bug fixes for Photo uploading and viewing notes has been approved and is now being published to the windows phone marketplace. I hope it’s with you shortly!
If there’s no further issues then I shall release the initial GIF support and the improved HTML handling at the end of the week.
Thanks for sticking with me

Dashbuddy now also has a Twitter feed →
Tumblr posts notifications of all new articles onto the new feed, plus of course feel free to post questions or comments on the DashBuddy twitter feed and I’ll reply as soon as I can (I say this as people often don’t realise I’m in the UK time zone).
As an aside
I’m looking at adding image placeholders into the photo and text posts so people are aware they’re going to be loaded at the point where the text appears - because that part of the system is dependant on the speed of your phone downloading them.
I’m also looking at implementing a mechanism for showing animated gifs within photo posts and photo sets.
I’ll keep the blogs...

will u be publishing the markdown parser as a “stand alone” project for others to use or seal it away in dash buddy mate?
Although Flowdown - the name for the Markdown to flow document conversion utility which I’m writing - will be primarily written to work with DashBuddy, the idea has always been that the source code for it will...

I paid for dashbuddy a long time ago, but after this last update I’m not even able to open the app. Just immediately force closes.
Hi. I’m sorry that you’ve had this trouble with the app - I have been trying to fix the problems as fast as I’ve been aware of them, and as fast as Microsoft have been able to test them.

Coding because I want to
I’ve been firefighting for too long. On Dashbuddy it’s been only recently - but at work it’s been longer than I care to think about. I got burnt, and it’s my users who are now pissed at me for it.
I can’t do anything on DashBuddy now until the next update is released, and to be honest after this update I need to take stock anyway - really see what’s next, and...

I don't believe it. v3.7 has broken photos.
I’ve just found that I’ve managed to upload the wrong version of v3.7 to upload to fix the upgrade bugs. This means that currently photo posts can’t be submitted because that’s what I was working on fixing for the next version - photoset uploading.
I upgrade the version number of my app as soon as the previous version has been accepted - so the marketplace couldn’t...
v3.7 Approved
Just received an email a few minutes, the minor update which should fix any loading issues with DashBuddy has finally been approved and should be with you all shortly (I say shortly, the 3.6 update took a couple of days to get to my own device!)
I’m going to try and make 3.8 a bigger update now, I’ve got to try and get back the users I no doubt lost (lots of 1-star reviews during the...

v3.6 Approved, v3.7 Submitted
v3.6 of DashBuddy has just been approved, this was the update to allow posting to multiple blogs and should be updating on phones shortly.
v3.7 has been immediately submitted now I have the ability again - it is a small release to permanently fix the update bugs that have been causing problems for so many users.
Apologies again for this inconvienience, once this has been approved I’ll...

Fix for update issues
I’ve just created v3.6.1 - a small but crucial release to fix the issue that’s been happening with the 3.5 update.
3.6 has to be certified before I can release it, so it’s probably a few days away - but I hope this helps. It clears everything out on the first startup, and then registers itself with the app so it doesn’t do it again. It should stop any more random...
kaedenigma-deactivated20120113 asked: If there is any way for you to make it possible to reply to posts, that would be awesome! But i really like that i can pin new text post to my home screen!
v3.6 Submitted to the marketplace
The only new feature in 3.6 is the ability to post to multiple blogs.
The description has been made even clearer that upgrading from version 2.x requires a re-install.
I’ll post again when it’s been approved.

I had to reinstall but not huge issue. Works great. Still want to be able to Queue reblogs and add tags to them. Can see that can be done on regular blogs now so that’s good. Otherwise nice update.
Moving reblogs into the standard edit structure is definitely on my list. There’s a thread about queuing problems with the new API which...
3.5 Update Issues
Just got my first 1-star rating on the Windows Phone marketplace because of the 3.5 update.
It does look like existing users are having to re-install rather than upgrade. I can’t see why this is happening but I’m really sorry for not spotting it before the update went out!
I’ve submitted a new product description warning existing users that it’s safer to re-install than...
v3.6 ready to deploy!
OK. Apparently my architecture changes have paid for themselves already!
I hadn’t actually realised just how easily I would be able to update my app now. It’s great to work with!
Multi-blog support is ready to be sent for certification after only a morning’s work.
There’s a “new post” option against the blog list, as I’ve shown in a previous post....

DashBuddy v3.6 and v3.7
Right
v3.5 is out there and people are starting to use it, so it’s time to get working on the next update.
I want the releases to be smaller now, a few key features released with speed rather than a lot of features but making you guys wait for it. Obviously each release will have fixes for any bugs picked up along the way.
The next two releases are currently planned to be:

DashBuddy v3.5 has hit the marketplace. We now have recent notes, photoset viewing, follower lists and pinned blogs on the start screen! As well as notifications when new posts hit your dashboard.
A lot of work went into this version, and v4 shouldn’t be too far away.
Get it here

Passed
Version 3.5 of DashBuddy has passed certification and it is now in the process of being published, which I know can take a while - so I hope you enjoy the new features when they arrive.
Let me know!

Submission Failed? Excuse to update to v3.5!
I just got the email from Microsoft that V3 of DashBuddy failed certification. This is because in the new code I’m using there’s no difference between the app going wrong and Tumblr having one of its “moments” - this is an automatic fail as it looks like the app is wrong straight out of the box, which it wasn’t.
This has been fixed and I’ve just submitted the...
DashBuddy V4: Initial List
I know, I know - I haven’t gotten V3 approved yet - but there’s still a lot more to do.
Here’s my initial list for V4, which should take a lot less time to implement now I’ve re-written my codebase.
Continue working with Tumblr to get you guys the ability to create new photosets from within DashBuddy ASAP (still haven’t gotten to the bottom of this one just yet)

DashBuddy V3: Submitted to Marketplace
It’s been a long time coming. I just submitted V3 for certification.
Assuming all goes well we’ll soon have:
Full follower list access, including following new blogs and unfollowing existing ones.
Ability to view all photos in a photo set.
Able to pin your favourite bloggers straight to your start screen (click on their name and there’s a “pin” option from there)

V3: Slight UI Change
I’ve made an alteration to the DashBuddy Icons (not prettier I’m afraid, still a dev at heart!).
Picture 1: I’ve lost the background heart from the image so the pinned icon is quite clean.
Picture 2: With notifications turned on, you not only get a little toast message appear - the icon changes to this so that you can tell when there are new posts even if you miss the notification.
DashBuddy V3 - BugHunting Phase
As I said in my last post, I managed to get the old photo upload working in the new architecture this weekend - thank goodness!
I’ve deployed to my own device and I’m now working on finding and fixing bugs for this version - I normally give this phase a week, so I’m looking at working on them until about Friday. Then the plan is to submit the new app in the marketplace over the...

A call to the Tumblr team
This is an open comment to Tumblr dev/community staff - and I’m posting this on my Tumblr blog too.
I understand that you guys are hugely busy, and that in the grand scheme of things API support for community programmers is hardly a priority. We’re all devs here, I don’t think anyone expects constant interaction.
But despite that, the release of the new API has been met with a...
